Hindustan Platinum’s history is both, fascinating and inspiring. In the 1950s, the Choksi brothers’ entrepreneurial spirit led them to start a precious metals business when they were mere teenagers. One day, one of the brothers needed a platinum wire for his Chemistry class. Due to a lack of funds, he borrowed some platinum from his father who worked at Zaveri Bazaar, the traditional jewellers market and the brothers hammered and hand welded it into a wire. The chemistry professor was impressed by the quality of the wire and placed an order for 20 such wires. With this first order they identified a market opportunity and started manufacturing and supplying platinum wires. The brothers also soon realised that due to stringent import regulations and a lack of local production, a young independent India needed domestically manufactured precious metal products to fire its manufacturing industry. Although the business environment was challenging and highly regulated, they soon branched into manufacturing crucibles, wire meshes, electrical contacts, chemical products and allied products. Over the next six decades, the Choksi family, through hard work, innovation and a continuous focus on excellence, led Hindustan Platinum on a journey of exceptional growth.
Hindustan Platinum's first plant was established in the heart of Mumbai, India’s commercial capital. Capturing market opportunities led to rapid growth, significant expansion and investment in an ultramodern integrated complex located amidst the serene and verdant hills of the Western Ghats in Navi Mumbai.
